10 Ways To Decorate Your Deck For The Summer

Your deck might be a fun hangout now, but just imagine how great it would be if you dressed it up a little! These tips will help you transform your deck into a place of beauty and pleasure, just in time for summer entertaining.

Unify with Color

Pick a color scheme for your deck that consists of one main color and two accents. Use this color scheme to unify your entire deck by incorporating it into the color of the wood, the furnishings and the accessories. For example, choose a color scheme that involves painting your deck a sienna brown color, and incorporates accents of copper and powder blue into the furnishings.

Install Solar Lights

Install solar string lights along the railing and wound through one or two decorative potted plants. Solar lights easy to install because they need no wiring. They also keep your deck well-lit at night, making outdoor nighttime get togethers an attractive, magical affair.

Get a Fire Pit

The word “fire pit” is something of a misnomer because most fire pits aren’t pits at all, but above-ground bowls. Still, adding a fire pit to your deck creates a natural focal point where you and your guests can sit and stare as you drink soothing beverages and and enjoy the comforting glow from the flames.

Install a Canopy

A canopy can deliver natural flare that brings color to your deck while also providing shade. We recommend installing a canopy over only a part of your deck, so you can enjoy time in the sun at will.

Paint a Pattern

Painting a pattern on your wooden deck creates a natural color scheme to which you can match your deck furniture and accessories. Keep the pattern somewhat simple to prevent it from becoming too loud and distracting from the fixtures and furniture pieces on the deck.

Create a View

By creating a natural view off the side of your deck, you beautify the deck itself. We recommend creating a natural focal point to look at and admire when sitting on the deck. Adding a koi pond, waterfall, cactus garden or some comparable feature in your yard will make your deck seem that much more attractive.

Install a Privacy Screen

Privacy screens can be made of any material, from a patterned canvas to a living screen of climbing flowers. Whatever privacy screen you pick, be sure to choose something beautiful that you can enjoy looking at over many months.

Add a Lattice

Install a lattice along one wall of your deck, then plant climbing plants nearby and encourage it to wind around the lattice. Climbing, blooming vines will turn your lattice into a vertical garden. You can also consider growing snap peas, which produce flowers during the spring and tasty pods later in the summer.

Window Boxes

Window boxes with planted flowers are an easy way to add color to your deck. This is a good option if your yard is very small and lacking in its own landscape. If your yard is large and your landscaping elaborate, then it’s important to keep your window boxes in an out of the way location so they won’t cover up the yard beyond.

Line the Railing with Potted Plants

Pot plants of different sizes and in different types of pots, then line the railing with the newly potted plants. This will add greenery to your deck and make the setting more beautiful.
