3 Home Decorating Trends You Don’t Want to Miss This Autumn
Sam Lutz • August 28, 2018
If you’re like many homeowners, you experience a fresh burst of energy when late summer gives way to fall. It’s only natural to feel the urge to indulge in home decorating projects during this time of year. Luckily, fall of 2018 features some of the most interesting home decor trends in years. Following are just three of this fall’s decorating trends that you don’t want to miss.
Maximalism
Minimalism has taken center stage for so long in the world of home design that many are breathing a sigh of relief to welcome in this fall’s return to maximalism. Look for big colors, oversized furniture, dramatic statement art, and lush, luxurious fabrics. A good way to get your feet wet with maximalist decor is to start with something fairly noncommittal such as oversized cushions, a jewel-toned velvet bedspread, a pair of ornate lamps, or a gorgeous painting featuring vibrant colors in one of the major focal points in your home.
Richer Palettes
Deeper and richer color palettes are in the forefront of decorating trends for fall of 2018. You’ll see plenty of jewel-toned furnishings, accent

in vibrant colors such as ruby-red and turquoise, and sunny splashes of golden hues everywhere. You’ll also see black used as a statement color along with lots of ultraviolet highlights.
Terrazzo
Serving a variety of purposes for more than 500 years, terrazzo has its origins in Italy. It began as a way to use leftover marble chips from art and building projects. The chips were mixed in with cement and polished to create a smooth surface for flooring. Today’s terrazzo isn’t limited to marble scraps, however; quartz, granite, and glass are all used to create an eclectic look. Modern uses include exterior hardscaping such as statuary, fountain, steps, and stepping stones, and it’s used for flooring and countertops indoors. You can also expect to see terrazzo-inspired patterns on furnishings and even walls this fall.

One of the wonderful things about good wood furniture is that it doesn’t have to be merely functional. It can be beautiful as well. We’ve seen some amazing pieces made with wood stains that are more than just furniture, they’re works of art. So if you’ve got an old table, desk or other piece of wood furniture that needs jazzed up, why don’t you consider using some of our great stains to try one of these ideas.
