Keeping Your Walls Safe this Holiday Season
There’s nothing better than a gathering of family and friends. The holidays truly come alive when everyone gathers at your home, ready to eat, drink and be merry. However, keeping track of everyone and making sure your nicely painted walls survive the extra people is another matter. Here are a few tips to help you and your walls make it through the holiday season.

Cover Your Chairs

Whether someone’s getting up in a huff or just trying to navigate around all those third cousins, chairs are going to come into contact with your walls. Oftentimes, this results in nasty scuff marks that serve as an unfortunate reminder of an otherwise festive occasion.
You can nip this problem in the bud and keep your walls pristine by covering your chairs with fabric. You can buy these at most furniture stores, or get creative and make your own. Not only will these handy covers protect your walls, they’re a great way to add a festive flair to your celebration.
If you don’t want to cover the entire chairs, adding a small piece of rubber or felt to each corner will help ease the contact with your walls.

Add a Chair Rail

For a more permanent solution, consider adding a chair rail to your dining room or other areas. Although typically thought of as decorative, these chair rails do what their name implies. Placed about ⅔ of the way up the wall, chair rails are great for absorbing the damage that would otherwise go to your walls.
Again, this is a permanent solution, to take care when installing and painting your chair rails. This is a great project before the holidays start and involves a good amount of work. It’s definitely not a project to undertake after your guests have already arrived.

Have Cleaning Products on Hand

If you plan on reacting to scuffs and stains as they happen, make sure you have your supplies on hand. Letting certain stains sit is only going to make things worse. Tackle your stains and scuffs as soon as possible and you’ll feel much better, Not only will you forgo the stress of dealing with it later, you’ll also be able to get back to your celebrations much quicker.
